WHERE TO GO HORSE RIDING IN THE BAIE DE SOMME?

THE BEST ADDRESSES

-       Henson horse riding centres: in Saint-Quentin-en-Tourmont, in the heart of the Marquenterre, we are a stone’s throw from the great beaches in the heart of the pine grove; in Fort-Mahon, the Bay of Authie awaits you; in Rue, at the Henson Stud Farm, a family ambiance is home to horses alongside Highland cattle and Shetland sheep.

-       At Ferme Relais in the bay, Carole and Thierry take you out on a Henson horse to explore the salt marshes and coastal wetlands.

-       There are many other equestrian centres in the Baie de Somme that do not specialise in breeding Henson horses; the full list can be viewed below.

OUR ADVICE FOR THE BEST POSSIBLE EXPERIENCE
---Do--- ---Don't---
  •  In the Baie de Somme Nature Reserve, ride your horse at walk.
  • Always have the appropriate equipment : helmet, boots.
  • Go to one of the equestrian centres that will help you enjoy your ride as much as possible.
  • Enjoy the exceptional landscapes of the bay.
  • Be gentle and take good care of your horse.
  • Take a tent and enjoy an extraordinary overnight experienc.
  • Enjoy an unforgettable moment in the Baie d'Authie: set off for a rugged and refreshing swim with your horse.
  • Encourage the Henson horses, polo champions.
  • Enjoy an initiation into cutting at Rue, a Western form of gathering the herd together.
  • Don’t scare seals and birds by getting too close (a distance of 300 metres is obligatory)
  • Don’t gallop on the dunes.
  • Don’t pass certain areas at high tide: the bay can be dangerous.
  • Don’t scare other horses that are grazing: they are gentle and sensitive creatures.
  • Don’t limit yourself to the Baie de Somme, the beaches and dunes of the Marquenterre, and set out to explore the Baie d'Authie, the wetlands and salt marshes, the woodland and plains of the back country.
  • Don’t forget to carry out all the stages of preparation and care for your horse before you set out. These will help you to create a bond with your companion during this ride.
